Flowers To: Me, From: Me
For as long as I can remember, there was always a vase of beautiful flowers in my family dining room. My mum would buy the flowers from the supermarket while we picked up our groceries. She typically bought Gladiolas. They are lovely long-stemmed flowers with pops of funnel-shaped flower heads highlighting the length of the stem. I couldn’t help but smile whenever I walked by the flowers that were sitting pretty in our dining room.
A few years ago, my mum suggested I start buying flowers for myself, and I did. To be honest, the first few times I went out and bought flowers for myself, I felt weird. I felt like I was cheating or doing something wrong. If you’re like me, then you’ve definitely thought that flowers were something that someone else had to give to you for a reason. Whether it was for graduation, your birthday or of course Valentine’s Day.
The more I bought flowers for myself, the more I realized what it started to mean to me. My mind shifted from thinking it was weird, to now normalizing the gift of flowers to myself. It felt nice to buy flowers for me. Like I was rewarding myself. It became a nice way of showing some self-love to the most important person in my life, which is ME!
I have to know how to love myself before I can love someone else. This has also helped me realize that the gift of flowers is one way I would like to be shown love.
Coming home and seeing flowers in my room is a really nice feeling. They bring a positive energy that makes me happy and relaxed. They brighten the whole area and brighten my mood.

I no longer tie flowers to only receiving them from someone else, but gifting them to myself because I can. Because I deserve to have flowers to: me, from: me.
Just know that you don’t have to wait for someone else to show you love, appreciation or congratulate you. Similar to how you shouldn’t have to wait until Valentine’s Day to show love. Show it everyday. It’s still special. Show yourself some self-love.
Don’t be a coward, buy yourself flowers! ;)
Here is how I care for my flowers:
Step 1: Cut the stems at an angle with sharp sheers or scissors. As a guide, I cut my flowers just below the leaves. This is based on the height of the vase I use. You may need to adjust to the height of your vase. (You can also cut the stems little by little until you’ve reached your desired length)
Step 2: Pull off the leaves at the bottom so they are not in the water when the flowers are in the vase. Rinse the stems off with water.
Step 3: Pour the plant food in the vase and add some warm water to dissolve it. Then continue to fill the vase with cool water.

Step 4: Add some ice cubes to the water. This will help keep the flowers fresh longer and help them bloom.
Step 5: Place the flowers in the vase and arrange them to fit nicely and not overcrowded.
Enjoy and watch them bloom!
